Enhanced Vision was very excited and honored to have their Acrobat LCD featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition episode that aired this past Sunday, December 8, 2010.
When Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s producer contacted Enhanced Vision, America’s leading manufacturer of magnifying solutions for the visually impaired, there was no question that this deserving family would get exactly what they needed.
Cleveland residents Jasmine Anderson, who is legally blind, and Andre Anderson who is totally blind, are Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s latest recipients. Both Andre and Jasmine travel to their community schools and organizations in an effort to generate awareness about disabilities. Together, they’ve founded the “This Ability Awareness Center” where they devote a great deal of their time to counseling individuals with disabilities and making sure that people are aware of resources to help them remain independent.
Enhanced Vision wanted to make sure that Jasmine would have the right tools to not only help her remain independent but also help her continue to give back to her community. After learning more about Jasmine and her low vision needs, Enhanced Vision eagerly donated an Acrobat LCD (magnification for near, intermediate and distance viewing), a Merlin LCD (magnification for reading & writing) and a Pebble 4.3 (portable hand-held magnifier).
One of the most touching moments when introducing these electronic magnifiers to Jasmine was when she was finally able to see her wedding ring for the first time. For most people, this may be something that’s taken for granted but for someone who is visually impaired, this one moment is so very special. “We hope that Jasmine will experience many other moments such as this and that these new tools will help her in her mission to empower others with disabilities as well,” said Barron Javaheri, President of Enhanced Vision.

Enhanced Vision would like to congratulate Denise Peloquin as our October Pebble Drawing winner! We are very excited to hear that Denise will be getting great use out of Pebble, hand-held portable digital magnifier. Pebble is the only hand-held magnifier you will ever need for your low vision needs.
Denise was kind enough to say a few words about herself and how the Pebble will benefit her:
Thank you so much! Wow, was I ever excited to hear that I won a Pebble! This electronic magnifier will benefit my life in so many ways every day. I have been using standard hand-held magnifying glasses for years but they no longer provide the help I need. Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with plaquenil retinopathy–plaquenil was a medication I had been taking for autoimmune disease and arthritis. For unexplainable reasons, the plaquenil built up in my retinas causing blind spots in my vision. Eye specialist have told me this was a one in a million occurrence and there is nothing that can be done. Soon after, I could no longer drive and two years ago, at age 57, I had to retire after 40 years of federal employment as I could no longer perform my duties as a secretary. Unfortunately, the condition continues to gradually take away my sight. However, I remain upbeat and accepting of that which I have been dealt.
The Pebble will be my eyes. I say this because whenever I reach for a magnifier, it’s like I’m putting on my eyesight, like a person who needs to put on a pair of glasses or contact lenses. It will be an indispensable device throughout my life. Thank you again and thank you Enhanced Vision so very much for allowing me to have won the Pebble. I cannot wait for it to arrive and open up my world.
Don’t forget to sign up for your chance to win the Pebble for the month of November! Click here to be entered into our next Pebble drawing!
