The Foundation of Laguna Woods Village presented a check to the Vision Club to use toward the purchase of a text enlarging reader, Merlin LCD.
The reader will help people with low vision by magnifying books, magazines, and other print or writing placed on the computer-sized desktop magnifier.
The donation of the reader came about by a donor’s specific request to the Foundation. Tom Sullivan, famous American performer, author, and motivational speaker presented his one-man show, “Adventures in Darkness”, at the Laguna Woods Village auditorium in February of this year. The show benefited the Foundation, and Mr. Sullivan, who is blind himself, requested that the donations generated from the event be used toward helping the vision impaired….

Enhanced Vision will be participating in the Foundation Fighting Blindness Los Angeles VisionWalk on Sunday, October 24th at UCLA. VisionWalks are community-driven 5K walk-a-thons that raise money for the Foundation Fighting Blindness. The Foundation Fighting Blindness is a non-profit organization that funds research that will lead to preventions, treatment and cures for retinal degenerative diseases. The organization puts on numerous VisionWalks throughout the year all around the country to help raise money for the Foundation.
Enhanced Vision will be joining Dr. Bill Takeshita’s team, Dr. Bill Foundation and Hopeless Records, at the VisionWalk and we eagerly donated to the team as well. Dr. Bill is a wonderful advocate for assistive technology, such as Enhanced Vision products. Enhanced Vision is honored to be partnering with the Braille Institute of America on many different projects and campaigns this year. The Braille Institute provides programs and services to over 75,000 people at their five Southern California center and through more than 350 Community Outreach locations.
In order to support Braille Institute’s cause, Enhanced Vision donates a Pebble hand-held magnifier monthly to each of the five centers as a giveaway to one of their visitors.
Enhanced Vision has a Drawing Box located inside each of Braille Centers. All a visitor needs to do is fill out a Drawing form and submit it into the box. At the end of every month, a winner’s name is pulled at all five centers and a Pebble is given away.

When Stanley Wilson heard the Lions Club District Governor stress the importance of the club being known for its community work he knew exactly what to do.
“Working with and for people who are visionally challenged is a major pro-ject for the Lions Club as a whole,” said Wilson, president of the Lawrenceburg Lions Club. “For some time, our group had talked about doing something for our library that could benefit vision impaired individuals.”
The Lions Club purchased equipment for the Lawrence County Public Library that helps to enhance reading material for individuals with vision problems. The library is on East Gaines Street in Lawrenceburg.
“Once we decided to do this project, we approached the library with the idea and they were all for it,” Wilson said. “They were more than willing to work with us on this.”
The equipment, known as a Merlin, is a flexible desktop magnifier. Reading material placed underneath the magnifier is projected in large type on a monitor making it easier to read. The magnifier also works with photographs by projecting a larger image on the monitor. (continue reading…)
